Presidents

Founder Jinzo NaruseThe founder and first president of the college, Jinzo Naruse, was born on June 23, 1858. He studied abroad at Andover Theological Seminary and Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and became a pioneer in the field of higher education for women in Japan. He was indeed one of the few great thinkers and educators of the Meiji Era, and had many friends among the foremost philosophers and educators of the world. He organized a committee of prominent supporters, and with the help of outstanding leaders of the time he founded Japan Women's College as a non-sectarian institution, stressing independence and freedom of thought.
