  General Research Institute of Japan Women's University opened
  Institute for Child Study, Rural Life Research Institute and Women's Education Research Institute closed
  Computation Laboratory was renamed the Computer Center
  Lifelong Study Center of Japan Women's University opened in Nishi-Ikuta
1996 Graduate School of Science was established

1997 Japan Women's University, a formal member of the Japanese University Accreditation Association, was reaccredited by the Association as of April 1, 1997.
